Known Planes of Existence
Irith
is a single world among millions within a universe consisting of planes of
existence. Over the centuries, only a fraction of the
existing planes have been explored and charted by the inhabitants of Irith
with the power to do so. Many explorers never returned, either because
they didn't want to . . . or couldn't.
Listed below are the known planes
that have been chronicled.
Fae Realm
The
Fae Realm is a place of
wondrous beauty and chaotic magic. All kinds of fae live here, including
their deities. The lands, which very much resemble those on Irith, are
alive with life. Magic is commonplace, and mundane items that exist there
for long are often
changed or warped by the presence of so much powerful magic.
The realm is made up of two
territories:
The Glimmershine
This place is always always
bright, sunny, an filled with spectacular colors. all fae Deities who
dwell here except for
Nyphadora, who resides in The Shadowdemesne.
The Shadowdemesne
The skies of here are always
filled with dark clouds that keep the land in perpetual dimness. Many fae
with dark dispositions tend to reside here.
Anyone visiting the fae realm,
whether The Glimmershine or The Shadow Demesne, will
not go long before feeling the tingling and vitalizing effects of magic on
their person. Most non-fae who dwell here eventually develop an innate
magical ability that they can use. The abilities are usually small in
scope, such as someone being able to turn objects blue for a short time or
cause invisible music to play briefly. In very rare cases, non-fae can
develop more powerful abilities. Within days after leaving the realm,
however, non-fae creatures will lose their innate abilities gained while
in the realm.
Gods that dwell here:
Aurochlem,
Corisiri,
Diafora,
Gillieth,
Loroth'lorai,
Nyphadora,
Orbeallan,

Lower Realms
Lower Realms (Demonaria)
The Demonic Lower Realms consist of many inhospitable
planes. Eight of them make up what is known as the Demonaria. These
small planes of existence are where demons hold sway. Each of the brutal
and uninviting environments is ruled by a powerful demon lord.
Gethis
Gethis is a cluster of thirteen spinning land masses
that revolve around each other under a gray sky streaked with golden
clouds. The orbiting masses are solid jagged rocks with some peaks
extending outward to a half mile. Although they move in chaotic patterns
and come extremely close, they never collide with one another. Travel
between the masses comes through enchanted portals located underground in
secret places known only to the master of this plane and her closest
lieutenants.
Living among the crags are demonic hoards organized
into legions under the command of power pit fiends. The ultimate ruler over
Gethis and all its inhabitants is
Dur
Anom, The Chaos Queen. On the highest peak of the largest
Gethisian land mass rises her black castle Oenthatis. A place where here
slaves know no respite from constant flesh-ripping torture.

Hagralaath
Hagralaath is a plane of solid ice. The surface of
the blizzarding realm is completely flat in all directly. Cut into the ice
are hundreds of miles of the twisting, turning passages that make up a
colossal maze. In the center lies
Roxshel
the Ice Bearer, who resides in his frozen palace known as Bergacia.
Roaming the top of the maze is a hoard of demons,
their purpose being to torment the prisoners roaming Hagralaath's endless
passageways in a hopeless attempt to find a way out.

Kothkethool
Kothkethool is a realm of total darkness. The land is
barren and uneven, with valleys and mountains and great plains. Only those
who can see through magical darkness see here. The surface is inhabited by
a few hundred demons constantly patrolling for those unfortunate to wind up
in Kothkethool. The bulk of the demon hoards live underground in what seems
like a neverending maze of tunnels and caverns. Their task is to ensure
that the slaves living there mine as much precious metals as they can.
Ever sleeping in her shadow fortress,
Sommethria (a.k.a. Scourge of Dreams) uses dreams to seek out
her enemies and those who would serve her best.

vegetation. Black twisted trees reach out with their leafless branches like
strange spiderwebs covering the landscape. The stench of decay and rotting
flesh is overwhelming in Laventia. Prowling through the underbrush are
packs of demons intent on rounding up non-indigenous inhabitants and
enslaving them to serve the master of Laventia: Opheix, The Slithering
Father.

secrets himself in the high forested mountains of Laventia, where he
surrounds himself with loyal devils willing to sacrifice themselves for his
continued existence.

inhospitable to live in. Those that exist in Oltyria are tortured and
tormented by
Igglivi,
who is known as The Lord of Hate.

skies of this realm are dotted with roiling black clouds of pure methane.
Atop one of those clouds is a fortress that houses the master of Rkush. His
name is
Kithalis, the Lord of the Forgotten. His minions of ruthless
demons roam the surface of the realm, herding slaves of lost creatures to
work at endless, meaningless tasks in the service of
Kithalis.

blistered. Through thousands of cracks and crevices burn fires that shoot
over a mile high into the sky of boiling gray and black. Demons are the only living creatures that roam here.
Scattered throughout the landscape are hoards of roaming undead, their
bloated bodies oozing pus and ichor. In the very center of Valenkor is an
ocean of blood, where the master of the realm,

rotting flesh and oozing blood. Traveling here is akin to walking on very
thick pudding, and the stench in the air is enough to choke most creatures.
Demon hoards stalk the hilly regions, chasing, enslving, and torturing
creatures not of their kind. The ruler of Zessus and its inhabitants is a
sultry, sexy demon named
Bethool,
also known as the Demon of Desire. She mostly spends her time in an
onyx tower in the highest mountain on the plane.

Lower Realms (Kostovelm)
Kostovelm is a realm of barren lands blasted by
storms of rain and yellow hail. Random lost souls that cannot find a place
to ascend or descend to, and were quite evil in life, come here. For
eternity, they roam the wastes in search of peace that they will never
find. Aside from that, the master of this realm,
Gonibrahth, ensures that his evil minions endlessly harrass and torture
the souls of Kostovelm.
The god of the underworld lives in a bleak castle
built upon a mile wide chunk of dark, floating earth that flies about
Kostivelm.

Lower Realms (Korthaganos)
Although devilkind exists in many places,
their home of origin is in the Lower Realms on a plane known as
Korthaganos. Korthaganos has been carved up by the devil princes into 7
territories, which they rule. Below are those who hold mastery of those
territories.
Deanclessus
Deanclessus, like all of Korthaganos, is a dark and
desolate place inhospitable to most forms of life. Some of the features of
the land are boiling plains of acid and clouds of toxic gas that float upon
the ground and turn the lungs of anyone breathing them to ashes. Devils of
all kind fight for few resources that are found here, all the while
torturing those souls cursed to come to this plane.
From his ebony castle floating high atop a perpetual
storm cloud,
Dasuroth looks down upon his domain. He is the king of the devils and
rules them mercilessly, demanding that they pay homage to him or become
slaves themselves. He holds sway over six other arch devils that preside
over each of the other territories of Korthaganos.

relentless storms that have lasted for centuries, is drenched in mud and
suffering. Swarming across the plains are many hundreds of thousands of
devils that herd and whip lost souls while screaming for them to work for
Drussalla, the Matriarch of Souls and ruler of the territory.
In a high mountain peak bordering Deanclessus,
Drussalla sits upon her throne of bones in her iron castle known as
Grozann. There, she makes works upon her constant plots and schemes to
increase her power base.

miserable pain. Their plight is that of slaves in service to the arch devil
Omgalor
the White Terror, who dwells in his mountainous icy palace known as
Frostfaar.

rivers of lava. The mountains dotting this place constantly spew lava,
raining ash down from a sunless sky. Devils infest Phoraln and take great
pleasure in the torture and enslavement of the souls sentenced to spend
eternity here.

impossible task of clearing paths through the vegetation.
The supreme ruler of Thromme is
Qa'Suul,
a devil prince that resides in the hollow of the tallest tree in Thromme.

Miscellaneous Planes
There are miscellaneous planes
that exist outside the High Heavens and the Lower Realms. Some are
habitable while others are not, while more still represent the elements
that are found in most planes that are known.
Astral (Between) Plane
The various planes exist in a dark,
starless void known as the Astral Plane. Many call this the Between. Those traveling from one plane to
another briefly pass through this void to get to their destination. There
are myths that divine beings roam the Between to ensure that the planes are
properly bound and that access between them, using the correct magic, is
smooth and efficient. These beings are referred to as Betweeners.
Aside from a few bits of matter, There
is no land in the Astral Plane, only silvery skies with oddly-shaped clouds
floating lazily by. Occasionally, one might see a thunderstorm or tornado
forming in the distance. There is no gravity here. Time here does not seem
to pass, and one within the plane experiences neither thirst nor hunger.
Those using an astral form to travel
here are linked to their material bodies by a silver cord. Severing this
cord will kill the traveler's material body.
Gods that dwell here:
Aeixis,
Gharan-Dis,
Orodar,
and Su
Reh.

Ethereal Plane
The Ethereal Plane is a ghostly
place that coexists with the Prime Plane and other planes as well. The air
here is misty, and at times there can be seen swirling colors that play
about. The Prime Plane is visible from here, although the colors are muted
and indistinct as the edges appear blurred and fuzzy.
Creatures on the Ethereal Plane are usually invisible to those on the
Prime. Also, creatures on either plane, in most cases, cannot attack one
another. There is no gravity here.
Gods that live here:
Quorophys.

Elemental Plane of Air
The Elemental Plane of Air is a realm of blue skies
with very little in the way of land masses. Land that is present exists as
small islands floating in the air, pushed along by the natural atmospheric
currents. Also floating here and there are clouds, with thunderstorms
sometimes forming and causing rain and hail to fall. In calmer regions of
this plane are stagnant fog banks that obscure vision and make breathing
difficult for those inside.
Those who appear here will begin falling, which can
go on forever so long as there isn't a land mass that happens to be
floating in the way. Eventually they will reach the edge of the plane and
loop back around to continue their descent until they find a way to stop
themselves.
Many of those who wish privacy come here, such as
wizards, live in castles or other structures that fly by their own magic or
exist atop floating masses of land. Found sprinkled throughout the plane
are Djinn strongholds where the mighty beings exist to study subjects
important only to them. These great beings rule over communities that serve
them and that they protect.

Elemental Plane of Earth
The Elemental Plane of Earth is a solid place made of
rock, soil, and stone. Those who appear here without properly preparing
themselves may find themselves entombed in something solid and crushed to
death. This plane is varied in its consistency ranging from soft soil to
veins of more valuable material such as gold and platinum. There are also
veins of crystal, gems, volcanic rock, and any other earthen materials one
might think of. The most common means of travel through this realm are
through natural and constructed tunnels through the solid rock and soil.
The gravity here is heavier than the prime, causing
non-natives to become tired more quickly from the simple efforts of getting
around. Those who are comfortable with a natural affinity toward earth and
stone can be found here as residents. At times, travelers can find spaces
containing non-earth elements, such as fire, water, and air.

Plane of Fire
The Elemental Plane of Fire is a place that
continually ablaze. The strong odor of smoke and ash permeate the area. The
ground itself is nothing more than great, evershifting plates of compressed
flame, ash, and debris. The most common liquid is magma rather than water.
Here exists oceans of liquid flame and mountains that continuously ooze
lava. Clouds of soot roam the skies and rain ash down upon the surface.
The gravity here is normal. Those travelers not
native to this place risk being incinerated if they are not prepared. Those
with an affinity for fire and lava live here comfortably. Throughout the
plane can be found communities of efreet in great cities made of anything
from brass to glass.

Elemental Plane of Water
The Elemental Plane of Water is an depthless ocean
without a surface and is lit by a diffuse glow. The eternal oceans here
range from icy cold to boiling hot, saline to fresh. The currents here
range from gentle to ripping. There can be found pieces of rock and other
earthen masses here that are suspend in the water and moved by the
currents. Upon them can be found structures built mainly by natives and, at
times, non-natives. Those non-natives who come here should be prepared to
breathe underwater or face a watery, suffocating death.
The gravity here is normal, although anyone floating
in the water is simply suspended there without being pulled in any given
direction except for being pushed/pulled by currents. Occasionally one will
come across whirlpools ranging from small to raging, which can cause anyone
caught within considerable damage.
Communities of undewater denizens are ruled by
powerful marid from their crystal palaces.

Negative Plane
The Negative Plane is a dark barren empty place of
endless night that hums and pulses with an invisible energy that literally
sucks the life and energy out of everything that enters it, including light
and heat. Only those who have made preperations to protect themselves from
the planes life-draining environment have any chance of surviving here for
long. Only a very few native inhabitants can exist here. Undead can exist
here without a problem. In rare instances, one might find a castle or other
structre here. Contained within is anotherworldy creature, such as wizard,
who has come here to study the realm or simply seek privacy.
Gravity is subjective, meaning an inhabitant can
decide which way is up or down. From this plane is drawn the negative enery
that fuel life draining spells or other incantations that require negative
energy.

Positive Plane
The Positive Plane is a realm of crackling energy
that shines bright enough to blind anyone who might come here. Here, the
air is alive with energy that is so powerful as to be harmful to mortals
who have not protected themselves. A unprotected mortal will quickly become
filled with the energy of this plain until their body cannot handle the
strain. And then they will die.
There is no surface here and anyone within the realm
is suspended in its space. There is no gravity here. A creature on the
Positive Material Plane can determine which direction is up or down. There
is little in the way of native life here. Those creature that can survive
natively to this realm are usually heavily protected or are themselves
energy. Any type of vision is limited to 5'. Anything beyond that appears
as indistinct blobs of darkness against the brilliant white background.

Shadow Realm
The
Shadow Realm is a lightless plane of black nothingness. Little is known
about the void other than that creatures that go there can only come back
through the portal by which they entered. It is rumored that the gods
created the realm as a repository for creatures they wished to punish
without killing them.
Scholars and wizards speculate that time within the
realm passes by much more slowly than that of other planes and that there
could be creatures there had been trapped centuries ago. Some wizards have
found a way to send creatures there and trap them there by means of a key
that they hold, such as a gem or other object. The key must be used by
someone outside the shadow realm to bring back the creature it had sent
there.

Prime Plane
The
Prime Plane is considered to be the plane around which all other planes
revolve. On this plane is the galaxy within which Irith lies, as well as
millions of other worlds. Natural portals to other planes from the prime
are rare. Portals are usually created magically, although there are some
natural ones rumored to exist. Here, aside from Irith, are many other
galaxies and planets. Some of them are even inhabited. The creatures and
diversity of life here is unmatched by most other planes.
