Garland is a territory that is as old as the Hestrillite Empire, dating back to a time just after the 1st Age of Man.

Points of Interest

Begliest Swamp

This sprawling swamp straddles the border between Garland and the Hestrillite Empire. Few dare to venture into this area, for it is inhabited by a vast array of nasty creatures, including dragons, hags, trolls, and more.

Blackhollow Forest

This ancient wood is known for the strange black trees that are mostly hollow, yet live for centuries. Creatures of the wood tend to live within their trunks.

Breck Wood

A good-sized forest filled with many fey and other woodland creatures. There seem to be only a few undesirable humanoids and other monsters here.

Garland Hills

Sprawling south of the Raven Peaks, these rocky hills are home to some gnomes and halflings. Many of the residents live along the trail running between Vark and Orfell, where there is considerable trade traffic.

Lero Hills

These wooded hills lie between Breck Wood and the Preock Forest. Theya re mostly inhabited by elves, gnomes, and halflings. The trade route running between Katreez and Iphollow provides inhabitants here the opportunity to prosper.

Perakin Swamp

This swampland is attached to the Begliest Swamp, running northward into Garland before touching The Great Inland Sea.

Preock Forest

The Preock is a vast forest located in the center of Garland. Inhabited mostly by elves, gnomes, humans, and halflings that live within the three towns located there.

Raven Peaks

A high thick mountain range, the Raven Peaks are known for the many flocks of ravens nesting within its peaks.

The Great Inland Sea

This vast sea is bordered by Garland, the Vohrn Territories, the Elvenlands, the Poulcea Province, the Hestrillite Empire, and the Kingdom of Dockrawlin. Many hundreds of ships from all of the listed countries sail these waters, mostly to do trade.

Slavery

 

The practice of slavery in Garland has been banished for many centuries. Those who traffic properly documented slaves from other countries are allowed to pass. If a slave escapes its captors, then it is considered free and is protected by Garland law.

Bottomless Pits of Fha'Zhet

 

There is a place in the Raven Peaks where the dwarves had mined too far. It was a bottomless pit a quarter of the mile in diameter that went down so far that gravity began to crush trying to explore it. Many say that the ancient lost demon god Fha'Zhet resides there.

This important city, which borders with the Hestrillite Empire, protects Garland's southwestern underbelly. Nazgri is a walled and heavily fortified city, anchored by the massive, ancient Castle Kaherth.

Although people here have many beliefs that involve several gods, there are only three formal temples within the city.

 

 

Wizard Presence

 

Wizards are looked at with respect and mostly fear, despite the necessity to have them in today's brutal world. The head wizard resides in Castle Kaherth. Those who wish to live in Nazgri and practice magic must meet with the head wizard to be evaluated and accepted.

 

Criminal Presence

 

Crime exists in a limited capacity within Nazgri, for breaking the law carries significant penalties. Aside from the petty crimes that are committed by individuals, there are two known gangs that exist within the city.

 

Boram Vots

 

This gang specializes in srreet-level crimes, such as pick-pocketing, robbery, and intimidation.

 

Veiled Scepter

 

A higher class of criminal organization, the VS concentrate on squeezing merchants for their gains.

Threme sits on the edge of the Parakin Swamp within the southern edge of the Blackhollow Forest. It serves as a connecting city for trade that occurs mostly between Oveana and Vusjak.

 

The Thentori Family resides in Castle Khomoon in the center of the city.

Wizard Presence

 

There are three wizards who all reside within Castle Khomoon. They adjudicate all matters of the arcane under the authority of the city council. Any wizard wishing to move into the city permanently must appear before the council and the wizards to submit their petition.

 

Criminal Presence

 

Like any city, Threme has crime. Aside from the individual criminals plying their trade, there are three known organizations that vex law enforcement.

 

Angry Claws

 

A street level gang that uses violence in most cases to promote fear and intimidation.

 

The Gray Circle

 

A mysterious group that focuses on shady deals under false names while utilizing extortion and blackmail as a tool.

 

Moonrakers

 

As much a cult as a criminal organization, this group tends to prey upon those who worship any god other than Su-Reh, yet seems to have not affiliation with the local Suh-Reh clergy.

Katreez is the capital of Garland and home to Grand Duke Scious El. He resides with his family and his ministers in Castle Falgenole. The ancient city has a dark and somber look about it. The citizens move along about their business and keep to themselves for the most part. They treat strangers with quiet respect and a healthy dose of undisguised suspicion.

Count Sebastian Otvos, his family, and the families of his top advisors dwell within Castle Volkom.

Wizards are looked upon with fear. In South Palderad, it is forbidden to use arcane magic without the express permission of the count himself. The count does keep a single powerful wizard ally, who lives within his castle. This wizard is allowed to roam where he pleases and use his magic without limits.

A vital city that protects Garland's southern border, Vark is a literal fortress. Rising on a high hill in the center of the city is Fortress Lammorex.

Wizards are looked upon with fear and awe. They are not always welcome, but the people recognize the importance of having them around if they expect to meet all dangers that might come.

 

Merchant Guild

 

All merchant activities go through an overseer within Fortress Lammorex.

 

Criminal Presence

 

Petty crimes happen here, despite the severe penalties. There ar three organizations identified as operating within Vark.

 

Clipped Wings

 

Concentrating on burglary, this shadowy band of outcasts has operated within the dcity for centuries.

 

Faraways

 

A group of disgruntled people who seem to take more pleasure in vandalism and destruction than crimes of acquisition.

 

Tall Ones

 

Known for members who are at least six feet tall, the Tall Ones engage in a wide range of crimes from robbery to extortion.

Vusjak

Vusjak is an ancient city located at the northernmost tip of the Pentledos Mountains. The city is predominately human with some dwarves, halflings, and gnomes mixed in.

 

At the center of the city rises the fabled Granite Spire, which reaches 100' into the sky. Kheldrenko Greyboulder lives within the spire.

 

Religion

 

 

Wizard Presence

 

Professional practitioners of arcane magic living in Vusjak are scarce. The Ministry of the Magical Arts answers direction to the office of the mayor. The MotMA is overseen by Arch Mage Saugram Gnarlnose.

 

Criminal Presence

 

Crime here is scarce. Aside from a few individuals who practice the pretty crimes of pick pocketing and small-time theft, there are no known organized groups within Vusjak.

 

Mushroom Harvesters' Union

 

Some of the continent's most flavorful mushrooms are grown in the vast caverns running beneath Vusjak. Trade for the valuable fungi is lucrative, and the farmers have a considerable voice in the affairs of the the city.

Crystalline Maze

 

Just to the southeast of the city is a series of huge crystal caverns of varying colors. One particular section is a 1/2 mile square maze that was made naturally by the developing crystals over thousands of years. Those who dare to venture into the maze must do so at the side of hired guide to avoid becoming lost.

The history of the elves in the Preock Forest of Garland is ancient. They are ruled by a small triumvirate council consisting of the head priests of Em'Sharfhei, Foryonnia, and Ytos, with the representative of Em'Sharfhei holding the leadership role.

 

Although the Agidell elves are nearly the same as elves found outside of Garland, they still harbor noticeable suspicion when it comes to outsiders. Since Agidell is situated on the east/west road connecting Garland with Dockrawlin and the Hestrillites, there is considerable merchant traffic moving through the city.

 

Religion

 

The people here hold many gods in reverence. There are four temples that exist here.

 

 

Wizard Presence

 

Wizards are few in Garland. In Agidell, there are two practicing mages: M'Dwar the male half-elf conjurer, and Boochwal the female human Abjurer. They live in separate residences within the city.

 

Criminal Presence

 

Being a predominately elven city, criminal activity here is fairly light. The only acknowledged criminal organization is the Pure Hearts, a gang dedicated to preying upon merchants whom they feel are polluting elven society.

Valeerias

 

Valeerias is a dark, enchanted wood just to the northeast of Agidell. This ancient place is supposedly haunted by the spirits of elves long past who committed dark deeds contrary to the laws of Em'Sharfhei. Anyone who ventures into the wood without strong divine protections risks being attacked by the vengeful spritis and consumed.

Dromfee

An ancient city of beauty, Dromfee is located in the southern reaches of the Preock Forest and serves go guard the southern border with the Dwarflands. Dromfee is known for the Shair Vyen Palace, a structure made from ancient trees.

There are four temples within Dromfee.

 

 

Wizard Presence

 

The Wizard Chancellery is located within Shair Vayen Palace. Arcane spell casters wishing to live within the city must report to the chancellery to be interviewed and vetted.

 

Criminal Presence

 

Crime is not prevalent within Dromfee. Punishment, even if the crime is slight, can often result in expulsion from the city.

This community has been in existence since before Garland was formed. Being a border city, Fohnpar is highly-fortified. The fortress Beesmsarl rises from the center of the city and can be seen for miles.

There are two wizards in Fohnpar, each residing in their own homes: Boinf Grifoot, the male halfling Conjurer, and Torleaf Tommeldar the femalehalfling Diviner.

 

Criminal Presence

 

There are no known criminal organizations or gangs in Fohnpar, but there are a few bad apples who have engaged in crimes ranging from pick-pocketing to blackmail and other nefarious activities.

Gregget Mushroom Fields

 

Gregget mushrooms are a rare and prized delicacy. They are difficult to cultivate and fetch a high price. For centuries, halfling farmers have managed to grow several acres of these fungi in the hills at the edge of city limits. These fields are well guarded around the clock.

 

Wildlands Borrder

 

The residence of Fohnpar have long been aware of the magical wall that surrounds the Wildlands and swallows throse who pass through. The wall is patrolled so warnings can be given to those who wish to go through.
