Kerus Island, up until about five centuries ago, had been mainly inhabited by sea elves. As the Defiled Lands became engorged with humanoids and the cast offs from the cleansed Queendom of Varanady, the inhabitants began taking to the sea, striking the coastlines of the Dwarven Kingdom as well as Kerus Isle.

The elves were besieged and ill-equipped to handle the sheer number of ships that were thrown against them. On the brink of being invaded and overtaken, the elves were saved by a last minute treaty with the dwarves and the humans from Regdon. A fleet of ships, primarily from Regdon, sailed to Kerus and defeated the forces from the Defiled Lands. Part of the treaty was the humans and dwarves be given territory in the island. The dwarves, for some reason relinquished their claim on any of the Kerus lands, leaving the humans to the won lands. The elves retain rulership of the island, but they soon became a minority to the humans who flocked to the island from the mainland.

Today, Kerusians subsist on trade with neighboring states and through fishing and transport. They maintain a peaceful existence through a well- equipped modern navy, which helps keep pirates and ships from the Defiled Lands from harassing them.

Points of Interest

Bay or Urol

 

The Bay or Urol lies off the southern edge of the Dwarven Kingdom. It touches the shores of Kerus and Blackmel.

Kerus Forest

Most of Kerus is covered by this lush forest.

Poseidon's Jaw

 

To the southwest of the Bay of Urol are waters that bubble and heave. The myth is that the turbulence comes from a snoring Poseidon. Ships try to steer clear of the area, for many have been lost to the unpredictable waves.

 

Silver Coast

 

Located off the southern underbelly of Kerus is the Silver Coast. For an inexplicable, the waters here give off a particularly silver sheen during the hours of dawn and dusk.

 

Winduroz Channel

 

The Winduroz (dwarven for "winding") Channel starts from the waters flowing from the southern underside of the Votack Mountains. The waterway expands into a crooked channel that proceeds west out of the Dwarven Kingdom. It forks at one point, with the southern reach flowing between Dwarven Kingdom and Kerus before emptying out into the Bay of Urol. The western fork continues on between the southern shores of Criksrad and Kerus before emerging into the Tarsis Gulf.

Kerus Independence Day

Date: Day 13 of Summer's Waxing

Over 250 years ago, Kerus won its independence from the Kingdom of Regdon when Olor, the governor of the island, goaded the King Auiguar into a personal combat match. If Auiguar won, he would have been given the hand of Olor’s beautiful young daughter Kelsa. Olor stood to win the independence of Kerus. Olor died from his wounds, but he did make Auiguar yield, thus winning independence for the island. The Kerusian people celebrate the event with three days of food and drink.

Sea Harvest

Date: Day 23 of the Month of Summer's Glory

A day of thanks for bounty of the sea that Kerus has enjoyed at the hand of Poseidon. This day is also jointly observed by the coastal inhabitants of Gorth who worship the sea god.
